The life of an unhappily married perfectionist begins to spiral out of control after he decides to pursue the real woman his virtual love interest is modeled after.

Perfectionist RICHARD WISEMAN runs a highly successful photography business—with the help of his assistant and mother Princess Wiseman—popularized by his ability to capture beautiful loving moments of his clients. Unfortunately, he struggles to find the same love that surrounds his everyday work life within his own marriage to Liyah Lyles-Wiseman.

Although Richard feels he’s trying his best, it doesn’t seem to be enough. So much that everything triggers the reality of his floundering relationship. Richard still holds hope, yet Liyah wants more than what the marriage may offer as her desire to rise through the culinary ranks takes priority.

With things appearing in dire straits, Richard decides to sign up for a hyper-realistic virtual world in the hopes of finding something different. Things soon begin to spiral out of control when Richard discovers that his new virtual partner, Toya, is based on someone real, triggering his decision to find her in the real world.

Producer’s Statement

I love movies. For much of my adult life, I’ve wanted to do nothing else but be in the motion picture industry and specifically work with an outstanding team to shepherd great, character-driven projects from script to screen. I love a well-written story that, at its core, has three-dimensional characters and a visual style that jumps off the page. As a producer and a lifelong fan of feature films like Woman of My Dreams, with its aesthetic story and atmospheric vibe, I’m excited to make this a knock-out project. As we embark on this incredible journey, I want nothing more than to see this story fully realized, knowing it will resonate with audiences as much as it resonated with me.

Director’s Statement/Vision

Cliff and Claire. Jason and Lyric. Dwayne and Whitley. Darius and Nina. Our ideas of love and romance are often shaped by the characters we see in the television shows and films we watch. This is especially true when our parents’ marriage is less than ideal. Creating idyllic realities based on fictional stories is probably the leading cause of divorce. There have been no case studies on the subject yet. So, this film is a case study. This film investigates the mind of a man who’s trying to create a scripted love story in an unscripted world. I was that man. I am that man. This film is for men like me, Richard, and for the people who tried to love us.

Woman of My Dreams is a unique opportunity to look at a wide array of different relationships and different types of love. The relationship I am most excited about is the character’s relationship with themselves. Black men in America have always battled to understand their worth inside the American system. Therefore, their worth has been rooted in their work and their relationships. These two things became the two biggest indicators of their value as a man. The idea of finding value in oneself is radical and revolutionary and a journey that far too few black men have had the privilege of exploring due to the crippling system of capitalism, underpinned by the violent system of racism. How can a black man know who he can be if he was never meant to be within the system? While I speak specifically about black men, I believe this story is universal and can impact any viewer with an open heart.

Ellingsen left the studio and moved back to Los Angeles to further his filmmaking career.
